Phillip Samuel

(B.A., Grad dip psych., MVAPP)

is a registered Psychologist and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.

Psychologist and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.

Phillip has a caring and empathetic style and believes that the internal world is able to be experienced in therapy through the building of rapport and trust. He has experience in treating adults and older adolescents who experience anxiety and depression. Additionally he has many years of experience treating the impact of trauma and abuse. He describes himself as a psychotherapist who uses ‘talking therapy’ to work through issues around attachment to assist his patients to rediscover how they process thought and emotion. Phillip recognises how bringing past experiences to the surface creates an understanding of one’s reactions and thoughts, which in turn builds internal strength and resolves the past so one can move forward emotionally.

Phillip completed an initial degree in disability studies and then specialised in addiction whilst he completed an internship for psychologist registration. It was during his work in community health and addiction that he became interested in psychotherapy and undertook further formal study in this therapy technique. He has had experience in treating trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, chronic health including diabetes, attentional disorders, personality disorders and disassociative disorders.

Following his trainings Phillip worked in community mental health  and advocacy. For the last 10 years he has been in private practice. He believes in choice and empowerment, and values respect, honesty, and integrity.

As well as personal therapy Phillip also offers professional supervision (Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy). For all enquiries please use contact page

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

— Viktor E. Frankl

Phillip believes it’s not the critic that counts.

Therapy offers the opportunity to find our internal dialogue to communicate what we want, what we need and what works for us.
